Identity Verification Rejected

If your identity verification in the ID Verifier app is rejected, it may be due to one or more of the following reasons:

  • Invalid ID document: Only passports and national ID cards are accepted as valid identification documents.

  • ID document expired: Your ID document has expired and must be renewed. ID documents with extended expiry dates issued by embassies or similar authorities will not be accepted during the identity verification process.

  • Could not read ID document: The ID document must be machine-readable. Older phones without autofocus or with cameras below approximately 3 MP may have difficulty reading the MRZ (machine-readable zone).
Reading errors may also occur when scanning the chip.
    1. Place your phone directly on top of the ID document and wait until the app confirms that the reading is complete.
    2. Alternatively, try completing the identity verification using another phone with the ID Verifier app.

  • Face not recognized: A dark background, poor lighting, scratches on the lens, or a low-quality color camera can cause the ID document not to be recognized. Move to a better-lit area and try a place where the background is bright
    1. Try again using the same phone.
    2. If the issue persists, you may use another phone to complete the identity verification with ID Verifier.

  • Information does not match: For foreign ID documents, Buypass must perform a lookup against the Norwegian National Population Register (Folkeregisteret), where the passport number or national identity number must be registered.
This is necessary to establish a unique link between your ID document and your Norwegian national ID or D-number. If neither is registered in the National Population Register, you must contact the Norwegian Tax Administration (Skatteetaten) to order an ID verification
